Swell to Great, Great to Pedal, Swell to Pedal, Trigger Swell

Originaly built for St. Andrews, Hastings.
New case and prospect pipes.

1 Maker

The organ was built in 1870 by T.J.R. Robson.
This was written on the CC-pallet of the Great-chest.
Joseph Robson and Benjamin Flight startet their
company in 1806 under the name “Flight & Robson”.
Later the name was changed several times, among others into Thomas J. Robson, 1844. Robson was a highly respected London Organbuilder („Organbuilder to her Majesty“).  He built several important instruments, such as  Cathedral St. John’s, Newfoundland, Canada 1853: 3 manuals, 42 stops; Temple Church, London, 1856: 3 manuales 49 stops.

2 Locations

Most probably the organ was built for the anglican St. Andrews Church in Hastings. In 1971 it was moved to St. Peters Church in Prestbury, where it replaced a Comton/Walker organ (Gerry Howe, director of music St. Peters Prestbury informed us about this). In 2001 the organ was dismantled and stored. The original Case („Piperack & Pannelling“) however was lost. In 2010  F.R. Feenstra purchased the instrument and transported it to the Netherlands.

3 Alterations and restoration

In the course of time the instrument was changed and restored several times, especially in the years 1946 and 1971. In both cases the work was carried out bij Mander Organs, London. The main changes are related to the stoplist, the position of the Swell Chest and the stop action. The Swell Chest was lowered to the level of the Great Chest. The mechanical stop action was replaced by an electric system. The origional stop knobs and plates were lost.
After the rebuilding(s) the instrument had the following stoplist:

In 2001 the organ was dismantled and stored. All newer parts made by Mander were sold (pipe work, Pedal chests).

During the restoration in 2014 all original parts were re-used as much as possible. The Swell chest regained its original upper position; the passageboard is situated partly above the pipework of the Great.

In consultation with the Orgelsachverständiger of the Diocese of Magdeburg, Matthias Mück, a new case was designed and the final stoplist was realized. Use was made of all remaining Robson stops.
